Frequently Asked Questions

When are utility bills due?
All utility bills go out to the customers around the 15th of each month and are due on the 5th of the next month.

Are meters actually read every month?
Yes.  Meters are read the last week of every month, and the readings are printed on your bill.

Where do I pay my utility bill?
You may mail your bill to the Janesville Municipal Utilities, P.O. Box O, Janesville, MN 56048 or drop it off at City Hall, 101 N. Mott Street, during business hours, or drop in it in the Drop Box located on the South side of City Hall.

You may also pay your bill on-line through Payment Service Network.  If you choose to pay on-line you will need to have your account number available at time of registration.  IF YOU PAY ON-LINE, BILLS MUST BE PAID BY 7PM ON THE DAY THEY ARE DUE OR THEY WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE.

Why do I have a charge for MN Water Test Fee on my utility bill?
This is a state mandated water service connection fee for all properties with a water service connection.  Legislation that became effective July 1, 1992, requires all public water systems in Minnesota to collect this fee on an annual basis as established per Minnesota Statute 144.3831.  Revenue from this fee is forwarded to the state and used to fund activities of the MN Department of Health's Drinking Water Protection Program related to maintaining compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and protecting the health of all Minnesotans.  Beginning January 1, 2026, the Minesota State Legislature passed a bill increasing this fee to $15.22 per water service connection per year.  Previous years the fee was $9.72.

I would like to apply for a utility rebate for a new appliance I purchased.  How do I do that and how will I receive the rebate?

Utility rebates are done electronically through Energy Insight P3 System.  Click here to create an account to begin this process.  Rebates that are under the $400 dollar amount will be processed as a credit on your utility account.  If the amount is over $400, you will receive a check in the mail in the few weeks to follow.  If you have any questions, please see Sara at City Hall.

Does Janesville Utilities offer anything for residents who want to fill their pool or water their yard?  Like maybe a sewer usage credit?
YES!  Janesville Utilities offers residential customers sewer usage credit on their utility bills when they register their outside water meter at City Hall.  You would email a picture monthly or stop in monthly with the meter so staff can record how much water you used through the meter.  Or if you don't want to do it monthly, you can stop in or email a picture to staff annually, in the spring when you take the meter out of storage and in the fall when you put the meter back into storage.  The email address you can email to is utilitybill@janesvillemn.gov.
