Safe Routes To School

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) route will take shape this year with final completion in 2024! This infrastructure grant program through MnDOT was applied for in 2017 and we were awarded the grant in 2018 with construction to begin in 2023. This has been a joint effort with JWP Highschool as well as support from Waseca County. Several Council meetings, JWP School Board meetings and open houses, K-6 grade Surveys and Teacher Surveys were all completed during this project.

The SRTS is a national campaign to create safe and enjoyable opportunities for school children to walk and bike to and from their local schools. It also emphasizes keeping children healthy and active. Ultimately the goal is to reduce the risk of accidents in school zones while showing the benefits of walking and biking to and from school.

The focus of this grant location was around the School zones and connecting a few neighborhoods that weren't already on the northeast section of town.
